In 2001, a European study showed that compressed air represented 11% of industrial electrical consumption…and that depending on circumstances it was possible to make a saving of 5 to 50% of that consumption!

This wastage stems mainly from 3 causes:

  • Leaks in the compressed air circuit.
  • "Artificial demand" synonymous with a service pressure which is higher than necessary.
  • Applications where compressed air is not appropriate.

And the opportunity to face up to this observation stems essentially from the fact that most end users do not have full control over their compressed air system:

  • how much does their system cost?
  • At what pressure are they running and what pressure do they really need?
  • What flow do they need and how much of it do they waste?
  • What is their system's real efficiency?

Bearing in mind that energy consumption represents 76% of the total operating cost of a compressed air system over 10 years (source ADEME), who can claim not to have a need of an audit to check the efficiency of their system?
